Rosemary Hallgarten is a British-born textile designer who made jewelry and worked in advertising in London before coming to New York and launching her namesake line in 2001. She is a second-generation maker, following in the footsteps of her mother, Gloria Finn, who worked with artists such as Anni Albers and Milton Avery, interpreting paintings as floor coverings.
Her love of alpaca started on a trip through Lima, where she found people making alpaca rugs and fell for the material on the spot. She chose to build from the ground up with artisans in Peru. Her textiles, woven from Peruvian alpaca, Himalayan wool, and Brazilian cotton, blend ancient craft with a modern sense of luxury.
This throw is hand-dipped to create its ombre gradation on an alpaca-and-linen ground, finished with a feather fringe. Because the dyeing is done by hand, each one is unique.
